Scope and Contents

International Education, 1968 to 1983 ---------------------------- CSB participated in an extension program in Luxemburg in Fall 1969; that program was closed abruptly in 1970 (see September 25, 1972 letter to S. Firmin). CSB also began to participate in UMAIE (Upper Midwest Association for Intercultural education) January Term study abroad program in 1972 - 1980) In 1973-1974, CSB had its own overseas program in St. Gallen, Cannes and Barcelona with Sister Margretta Nathe in German Studies and Leonel Galindo in Spanish and Charles Villette in French Studies. In 1978-1979 Roger Klassen became the first jointly-appointed director of CSB/SJU International Study Abroad Program. By 1979-80 there were 7 programs in Europe (Konigstein, Madrid, Cannes, Salzburg, Greco-Roman, and London/Dublin) with 170 students participating. By 2000, there were Study Abroad Programs in Australia, Austria, Central America, China, England, France, Greece and Italy, Ireland, south Africa, and Spain; In 2002-2003, there were 390 students participating in these programs. (See Search results for: Study Abroad and International Education) Note: The Office of Education Abroad (formerly known as the Center for International Education) was relocated from SJU to CSB Room G0047 in the second semester, 2007-2008, and, in January 2010, it moved to the ground floor of the Academic Services Building at CSB.
