Joint Governance Committee, 1972 to 1993-1994:

Background information:

The Committee was called the Joint Committee on Coordinate Relations until the end of 1995-1996. Since 1996-1997, the Committee has been called the Joint Governance Committee.

The Governance Document of December 8, 2000 states that the Academic Affairs committee is a Joint Committee rather than a coordinate committee because the two Boards always meet together. "Joint Committees are made up of representatives from both boards. They function in areas where there is--or there is desired to be--a single policy of practice that encompasses both CSB and SJU. The Chair of the Board of each college appoints members from their respective board to joint committees. Joint Committees report to the two boards meeting jointly." In 2002 there were only two joint committees: Joint Governance and Joint Academic Affairs.

** MAY 4, 1987: Planning Meeting of chief administrators to discuss cooperative planning. The discussion included a response to Bob Zemsky's 2nd report on cooperative academic administrative models and the report from the academic officers on this subject (April 24, 1987)

**Joint Board Meeting, February 19, 1982: Final Report of October 3, 1982**

**On April 13, 1990, CSB Chairman Herman Ratelle wrote a letter to SJU Chair McKeown stating that he appointed Ed Kocourek and Beth Dinndorf to a Committee on Cooperation for Joint Ventures, to discuss first cooperation between the two bookstores. Included in this file is a memo from Warren Janzen and from Miriam Ardolf and Mike Ryan (April 3 and 6, 1990) giving background on the former discussion on various ways to cooperate (May 17 & June 9, 1989)**

**May 10, 1991: Notes from an executive session of the joint meeting of the CSB and SJU boards - a discussion of cooperation and issues raised. The discussion was led by the two Board Chairs, Herman Ratelle and Tom McKeown, and presidents Hilary Thimmesh and Colman O'Connell. **Note President Reinhart's Report to the Board of Regents, October 16, 1991 in which he discusses the need to place the relationship of SJU and CSB on a new footing;

November 21, 1991: Statement by Kathleen Allen and Roman Paur on the "CSB Student Development and SJU Student Affairs Coordinate Relationship**

**April 2, 1992: Memo from two officers of Institutional Advancement to the two Presidents in re coordinating activities between the two I A offices

**April 23, 1992 Minutes: dealt with the working drafts of CSB and SJU coordinate mission. It also discussed the Marketing and Enrollment Management Plan proposed by Rick Smith

**May 5, 1992: Report of the Joint Committee on Coordination to Joint Boards : Approval of a pro rata sharing of instructional costs of the academic departments for 1972-1973. They rejected the idea presented by Blecker and Gervase the costs for differential supply of physical facilities--these were excluded in the vote for 1972-1973.**
