1946: J. Mullingau as football player, December 1909

Full-length studio portrait of dark-haired young man standing with his hands behind his back, in front of a painted background. He wears a dark turtleneck with a broad light-colored stripe across the middle. On the stripe is centered an interlocking letters S T J U logo. He also wears padded pants with a belt, striped athletic socks, and ankle-height boots.

Probably John F. Mulligan '11.

Theodore Harter, later Fr. Sylvester, O.S.B. He was the varsity football team manager in 1908.

2575: 1919 Football Team

Studio portrait of group of football players in uniform. They wear dark jerseys, belted football pants with kidney pads and thigh guards, striped athletic socks, and football shoes with cleats.

Top Row: Leo Galvin, John Daleiden, Lawrence M. Bendel '20, Laurence Glenn, George Brown, Owen Boyle.

Middle Row: Joseph Schmitt, James Keaveny, Mathias Weber, William Conroy, George Langford.

Bottom Row: George McGregor, Leonard Kapsner.

The Midgets were the co-champions of the intramural football Major League.

2589: Jr. 1st Football - 1917

Snapshot of a group of boys in street clothes and a monk in habit, outside the Gymnasium. The linemen are set, the center holds the football while the quarterback waits behind him. Three other boys are behind the line, with a hand on the shoulder of the boy in front of them.

The monk is Frater Denis Parnell, O.S.B.

If the envelope is correct, this is the First Junior team, i.e., varsity for the younger students.

This photograph was used in the Sesquicentennial collection, as LP217.Football.

2596: Rev. Celestines Football Team, 1918

A monk in habit stands with a group of young men on the edge of an athletic field. Two of the students are in suit and tie, but most wear dark sweaters with football pants.

Some tears in the negative's emulsion at lower right.

"Rev. Celestine" is Celestine Kapsner.

2597: Rev. Celestines Football Team, 1918

A monk in habit and clerical collar stands behind a group of young men posed as if at the line of scrimmage. In reality, they are on the edge of an athletic field, and it would receive a penalty for too many men on the field in an actual game. Also in the back are two young men in suit and tie, and two wearing dark sweaters and football pants but not ready for action. The center is preparing to hike the ball to the quarterback.

2598: Junior Athletes - Allstars, 1918, by Danzl

A group of boys in mismatched football uniforms poses at the edge of an athletic field, with a monk in habit in the back row.

Possibly the Stars, a Minor League intramural football team for the juniors (younger students) in fall 1918.

Leander F. Danzl, the student who took the picture, later became Arthur Danzl, O.S.B.

Norbert H. Schreiner '07 played on the St. John's University second football team (i.e., junior varsity) in 1906.
