The Freebooters, an intramural Major League team. Members included Michael Murek '18, Neil M. Kelly '17, and John G. Decker '22 (front row, left). Also on the team were James J. or William P. Hilger and team captain Henry J. or Leonard O'Donnell.

The dark-haired young man seated at front right is George Michel, later Fr. Virgil, O.S.B. Other members of the team were John Weckwerth (later Fr. Urban, O.S.B.), Nicholas J. Kopveiler '10, Gustave Dierkes '12 (team captain), Charles Kapsner (Celestine, O.S.B.), and Eugene J. Lemire.
The Spies were the champions of the intramural basketball Major League.

The Ramblers were the champions of the intramural basketball Minor League. Members were Louis Gravel (team captain), Peter L. Heles, Ray F. Lemire, John L. Oppermann, and either John B. or John N. Faust, all of them Class of 1909.

The students wear cardigan sweaters over jerseys, knee pants, dark stockings rolled down to their ankles, and ankle-height athletic shoes. The player seated on the floor cradles a basketball marked: "Inter-Hall / Jr. '09 / Champs."
One of the sweaters has an interlocking letters SJU logo, and two have interlocking letters SJ inside a letter U.
Possibly the Stars, the winners of the Junior intramural basketball Major League. V-neck jerseys in the school colors were promised as a prize to the winning team.

Young man in suit is possibly Frank Neary (Later Fr. Raymond, O.S.B.), basketball manager. "Thielen" is probably a mistake: there is a Fred Thielen '07 listed in the 1905-1906 catalog, but Peter J. Tierney '07 was the varsity basketball team captain. Others listed on envelope but not identified on print would be: Joseph Roerig (later Fr. Leander, O.S.B.), John P. Orth '06, William Kappel '12, Charles J. Schmidt '06, John Knaeble '07.
