Martin V. Cannon
Full-length studio portrait of young man with his hair parted on the side. He wears a three-piece suit and a light-colored shirt with turn-down collar. Only the top button of his jacket is buttoned. He stands beside a table draped with a fringed cloth, upon which is a vase with flowers. In one hand, he holds a book on the table. He gazes directly at the camera.
Black and white, brown tone, likely an albumen print.

Written on back in pencil, in what looks like Alexius Hoffmann's hand: "Martin (Charles OSB) Cannon."
Written on back in black pen: "Martin Cannon / now / Fr. Charles OSB."
Printed on back in metallic gold: "St. John's University / Art / Gallery / Collegeville, Minn."
Martin V. Cannon was a student at St. John's beginning in the 1886-1887 academic year, earned a Master of Accounts degree in 1891, joined the Abbey, and appears as a seminarian with the religious name Charles Cannon, O.S.B., in the 1892-1893 St. John's University catalog.
