Ernest Wetterhahn, 1909

Studio portrait of young man with dark hair parted on the side. He wears a striped double-breasted jacket with wide lapels, a plaid pocket handkerchief, detachable turn-down collar, and dark necktie with tie tack.

Black and white, brown tone. Oval format, 3 1/2 x 5 1/8 inches. Some silvering in the shadows.

Mounted on a white board with beveled edges and an embossed oval frame for the picture area. Debossed diagonal strip below the photo, on which is handwritten: "Ernest Wetterhahn." Embossed crest at lower right, with three candles diagonally across it and a wing above. Debossed at bottom, right of center: "St. John's Studio, Collegeville, Minn."

Tape residue on back right edge.

Written on back in black pen: "To / P. David OSB / '09."

Ernest received a certificate for two years' college work in June 1914, and entered the novitiate at St. John's that same year, then seminary during the 1915-1916 academic year. He left the monastery in 1917 or 1918.
