Burton Baker, circa 1916
Head-and-shoulders studio portrait of a young man with straight dark hair parted on the side. He wears a jacket, detachable high double round collar, patterned necktie, and striped shirt. Three-quarters view.
Black and white, oval format, 3 1/2 x 5 inches.
Mounted on ivory board with beveled edges, and an embossed oval for the picture area. Left edge is ragged, and may have been cut apart from a larger display. Debossed on lower right: "St. John's Studio, Collegeville, Minn." Total size 6 3/4 x 9 3/4 inches.
Tape residue and torn paper on back right edge, corresponding to the imperfectly cut left edge when seen from the front.
Written on back in black pen: "Burton Baker / now / P. Damian OSB."
Burton Baker received a certificate for two years' college work in June 1916, and entered the seminary as Damian Baker. O.S.B, in the 1917-1918 academic year.
