Previously unidentified:

1. Frank A. Beyenka. Oval format head-and-shoulders studio portrait of boy wearing a checked jacket and patterned tie. On card with rounded corners and red beveled edge. Stamped on back: "St. John's University Photographic Studio, Collegeville, Minn." November 6, 1887. Same photo as folder 21 (1887), number 2.

2. Joseph Eich. Full-length studio portrait of young man in suit and tie, standing with his hand resting on an open-backed chair. On pink card. Pin holes in top and bottom. Stamped on back: "St. John's University Photographic Studio, Collegeville, Minn." June 1885. Same photo as folder 19 (1885), number 3.

3. Frederick W. Faber and Adolph Stierle. Full-length studio portrait of two boys in suit and tie, with pocket handkerchiefs, in front of a painted background. Faber is seated on a fringed posing chair, on the left. Stierle, on the right, stands slightly behind him and rests a hand on his shoulder. On blue card. Circa 1884. Same photo as folder 19 (1885), number 4.

4. Michael Girsch. Studio portrait of boy wearing a plain suit and cravat. January 27, 1887. Same photo as folder 21 (1887), number 8.

5. John Hammerel. Head-and-shoulders studio portrait of boy with short hair. He wears a suit and tie, with a watch chain. On dark brown card with gold beveled edge. Stamped on back: "St. John's University Photographic Studio, Collegeville, Minn." This could be John P. Hammerel, from Luxembourg, who was a student in the Commercial Course in 1884-1885. Or it could be John Hammerel from St. Cloud, who attended St. John's from 1884 to 1889. Same as folder 18 (1884), number 12.

6. John M. Hammerel. Full-length studio portrait of a boy wearing a suit and a large corsage with ribbon. He stands beside an ornate column and rests the base of a tall candle on it. Also on the column is a small book. First Communion portrait. Stamped on back: "St. John's University Photographic Studio, Collegeville, Minn." Written on back: "First Communion day, April 12, 85." Same photo as folder 19 (1885), number 8.

7. John M. Hammerel and George Pfeifer. Full-length studio portrait of two boys in suits. Hammerel, on the left, is standing, and wears a bow tie. He rests his hand on the elbow of Pfeifer, who is seated and wears a watch chain. In front of a painted background. Stamped on back: "St. John's University Photographic Studio, Collegeville, Minn." January 23, 1885. Same photo as folder 19 (1885), number 9.

8. Frank Koch. Studio portrait of a boy wearing a suit and patterned bow tie. His jacket is open to show a watch chain with a medal. Stamped on back: "St. John's University Photographic Studio, Collegeville, Minn." June 22, 1887. Same photo as folder 21 (1887), number 11.

9. Louis La Bissoniere. Head-and-shoulders studio portrait of a boy with straight hair. He wears a suit with a checked jacket, patterned cravat, and shirt with turn-down collar. Stamped on back: "St. John's University Photographic Studio, Collegeville, Minn." October 1886. Same photo as folder 20 (1886), number 13.

10. Charles Lauer. Studio portrait of young man with straight hair. He wears suit and tie. On dark brown card with gold beveled edge. Stamped on back: "St. John's University Photographic Studio, Collegeville, Minn." November 27, 1886. Same photo as folder 20 (1886), number 15.

11. Louis Olivier. Head-and-shoulders studio portrait of boy with short, dark hair. He wears suit and tie, and a hat. On white card with rounded corners and thin gold rule. Photographer: Peter Engel, O.S.B. Stamped on back: "St. John's University Photographic Studio, Collegeville, Minn." February 26, 1887. Same photo as folder 18 (1884), number 19.

12. Julius Rebholz. Full-length studio portrait of boy wearing suit and tie, and a pocket handkerchief. His jacket is open. He stands, resting his forearm on the back of a fringed posing chair. On green card with red beveled edge. Stamped on back: "St. John's University Photographic Studio, Collegeville, Minn." Back of card damaged; was previously affixed to something else. March 1888. Same photo as folder 22 (1888), number 8.

13. Francis Rotter. Full-length studio portrait of a dark-haired young man in suit and tie, standing with his hand resting on the fringed armrest of a posing chair, in front of a painted background. Only the top button of his coat is fastened, and he sports a pocket handkerchief. On pink card. June 2, 1882. Same photo as folder 16 (1882), number 9.

14. Norbert Rouleau. Studio portrait of a boy wearing a jacket with a Peter Pan collar, and a watch chain. Only the top button of his jacket is fastened. On dark brown card with gold beveled edge. Stamped on back: "St. John's University Photographic Studio, Collegeville, Minn." 1886 or 1887. Same photo as folder 20 (1886), number 20.

15. Athanasius Scheffold. [Later became Father Ulric Scheffold, O.S.B.] Full-length studio portrait of dark-haired boy in three-piece suit and striped necktie. He stands, resting his hand on a book which is on top of a small round table covered with a fringed cloth. In front of painted background. On blue or green card with red beveled edge. Stamped on back: "St. John's University Photographic Studio, Collegeville, Minn." Back of card damaged; was previously affixed to something else. 1887 or 1888. Compare "Singing Choir, 1880s," PC07.0439.

16. George M. Schutz. Oval format head-and-shoulders studio portrait of young man in suit and cravat. On white card with rounded corners and thin gold rule. 1884. Same photo as folder 18 (1884), number 24.

17. Anthony Seifert. Full-length studio portrait of boy in suit, watch chain, and large corsage with ribbon. He stands beside an ornate column and rests the base of a tall candle on it. First Communion portrait. Back of card damaged; was previously affixed to something else. Written on back: "First Communion day, April 12, 85." Same photo as folder 19 (1885), number 20.

18. "Crowned Heads of Europe." Photo of a nineteenth-century print which depicted 20 European rulers, including Queen Victoria, Pope Pius IX, Napoleon III, Victor Emmanuel II, Ludwig II. Oval format. Stamped on back: "St. John's University Photographic Studio, Collegeville, Minn." 1868 (the print).

19. Henry Kenck? Full-length studio portrait of boy in three-piece suit and tie, with tie tack and watch chain. He stands, resting his forearm on an ornate pillar. In front of a painted background. Pin holes in bottom of card. Stamped on back: "St. John's University Photographic Studio, Collegeville, Minn." Circa 1886. Compare folder 21 (1887), number 10; folder 24 (1890), number 3; and PC07.0199, Montana Boys of 1886.

20. Charles Labord? Full-length studio portrait of boy in three-piece suit, standing collar, and patterned necktie. He stands, with one hand resting on a fringed posing chair. On card with red beveled edge. Stamped on back: "St. John's University Photographic Studio, Collegeville, Minn." Looks very similar to folder 22 (1888), number 4. This boy is not wearing a watch chain, and may be slightly shorter. Charles and Felix Labord, both from New Canada, both attended St. John's in 1887-1888.

21. Henry Meier? Studio portrait of young man in three-piece suit with watch chain and broad bow tie. One hand is behind his back. He rests his other hand on a short pillar. In front of a painted background. On card with rounded corners and gold beveled edge. Pin hole in top. Photo studio: Kertson & Courteau's, Sauk Centre, Minn. Back of card still glued to a scrap of paper. Looks very similar to folder 17 (1883), number 8.

Photographer: [T.M.] Swem, St. Paul. Back of card damaged; was previously affixed to something. Between 1883 and 1899.

24. Full-length studio portrait of boy wearing suit, broad bow tie, and large corsage. He stands beside a fringed posing chair and rests the base of a tall lit candle, decorated with leaves and ribbon, on it. In his other hand, he holds a small book. In front of painted background. First Communion portrait. Upper right corner of card worn off.

25. Boy with medal. Full-length studio portrait of boy wearing three-piece suit, patterned tie or cravat, and a watch chain with a medal or locket as a fob. He stands, resting his forearm on an ornate pillar. In front of painted background. 2 copies. One is on plain card with rounded corners, the other, on dark brown card with gold beveled edge. Stamped on back of both: "St. John's University Photographic Studio, Collegeville, Minn."

26. Boy in short pants. Full-length studio portrait of boy wearing a jacket with a Peter Pan collar, floppy tie, short pants, and dark stockings. He rests on hand on the back of a fringed posing chair. On green card with red beveled edge.

27. Young man with wreath. Composite print. Oval format studio portrait of young man with broad nose. He wears his hair parted in the middle. He is in jacket, bow tie, and turn-down collar. Around the portrait is a painting of a wreath of roses. On card with rounded corners and red beveled edge.

28. Young man in cravat. Vignetted head-and-shoulders studio portrait of a young man wearing jacket, patterned cravat with tie tack, and standing collar with points. Photo studio: Carli & Kertson, Shakopee.

29. Two boys in suit and tie. Full-length studio portrait of two boys wearing three-piece suits and bow ties. The boy on the left stands, holding a hat in one hand. His other hand holds the edge of his jacket. The posing stand is visible. The boy on the right wears a watch chain, and is seated on a fringed chair. Pin hole at top. Photographer: N. Hassan, Glencoe, Minn. 1880-1881.

30. Young man in jacket and tie. Vignetted head-and-shoulders studio portrait of young man in jacket, tie or cravat, and turn-down collar. Only the top button of his jacket is fastened. On dark brown card with beveled gold edge. Pin hole at top. Photographer: C.B. Rust, Hastings, Minn. Scrap of lined paper still glued to back, obscuring the sitter's name, which starts with a J. 1882-1883.

31. Young man in jacket and tie. Studio portrait of young man with a light-colored walrus mustache. He is wearing an unfastened jacket, a wing collar, and a light-colored necktie. In front of a painted background. Photo 1 1/4 inches wide by 2 3/16 inches high, on an ivory-colored card 1 7/8 x 3 1/8 inches with gold border. Slight water damage to card at upper left. Similar format to James Barrett, folder 27 (1887).

32. Two men in overcoats. Full-length studio portrait of two men in suit and tie, unbuttoned overcoats, and newsboy caps. Photo 1 7/16 inches wide by 2 5/16 inches high, on an ivory-colored card 2 x 3 1/8 inches with gold border. Similar format to James Barrett, folder 27 (1887).

33. Boy in open shirt. Vignetted head-and-shoulders studio portrait of dark-haired boy in a collared shirt. The shirt is open at the neck. The boy may be wearing a dark untied necktie. Cut in an oval shape from a larger print. 1 3/4 inches wide x 2 1/2 inches high. Back of print damaged; was affixed to something else.

34. Man in jacket and tie. Head-and-shoulders studio portrait of dark-haired man wearing a jacket, dark necktie, and turn-down collar with points. He parts his hair on the side. Oval format, 2 inches wide x 2 3/4 inches high.

35. Young man in suit and tie. Head-and-shoulders studio portrait of a young man with dark, wavy hair parted in the middle. He wears suit and tie, with a round shirt collar. His jacket is open. Oval format, 2 inches wide x 2 3/4 inches high. Back of print still glued to scrap of paper.

36. Young man in plaid cravat. Vignetted head-and-shoulder studio portrait of young man with short hair. He wears a standing collar, plaid cravat, jacket with piping, and overcoat with contrast collar. Mounted on cardstock. Oval format, 2 7/8 inches x 4 3/8 inches high. Stamped on back: "St. John's University Photographic Studio, Collegeville, Minn." Glue residue on back.

37. Tintype portrait of young man. Portrait of skinny young man wearing suit with turn-down shirt collar and striped plantation tie. He is seated in front of a painted background, and rests one arm on a small round table. Ferrotype approximately 1 1/2 x 2 inches. Matted under ivory card 2 7/16 inches x 3 15/16 inches with oval cutout and red ornamental border. Slight wrinkling across bottom of image. Backing appears to be newsprint.
