Student Photographs (cartes de visite), 1882

1. Otto Ackermann. Studio portrait of young man in suit with patterned cravat. Written on back: "Otto Ackermann, 1882."

2. William Butler. Full-length studio portrait of a young man in three-piece suit and watch chain standing beside a chair with an open back and upholstered seat, in front of a painted background. He has one hand behind his back. The posing stand is visible. Written on back: "Wm Butler - 1882."

3. Thomas Cullen. Full-length studio portrait of young man in three-piece suit and broad bow tie standing beside a chair with an open back and upholstered seat, in front of a painted background. The posing stand is visible. Back of card is damaged, possibly was previously attached to something else. Written on back: "Thos Cullen, Jamestown, D. T., Apr, 1882."

4. Thomas Devaney. Head-and-shoulders studio portrait of young man with short hair and a widow's peak. He is wearing a suit, white bow tie, and watch chain. His outer jacket is unbuttoned. Stamped on back: St. John's University Photographic Studio, Collegeville, Minn. Written on back: "Student, Tom Devaney, Hudson, Wis," and, in another hand, "79-82."

5. Fred W. Faber. Full-length studio portrait of young man with very short hair, wearing a suit and bow tie, resting his hand on the fringed armrest of a posing chair, in front of a painted background. The posing stand is visible. Slight wrinkling. Written on back: "Fred Faber, June 1882."

6. Henry Flock? Vignetted head-and-shoulders studio portrait of a boy wearing a jacket , a shirt with a turn-down collar, and a broad bow tie. Written on back in pen: "Henry Flock, La Crosse, Wis., 1882, later, Monsignor." This is written over pencil: "Van Beck, cousin of Henry." There was a student Henry Van Beeck from Glencoe in 1882, and another Henry Van Beeck from New Trier in 1880.

7. Anton Miller. Full-length studio portrait of young man in three-piece suit and broad bow tie, seated, with one arm on a fringed armrest, in front of a painted background. On pink card. Written on back: "Anton Miller, June 2, 1882."

8. William Munzinger. Faded studio portrait of a wavy-haired young man with a broad nose. He wears a suit, broad necktie, standing shirt collar, and watch chain. On green card. Written on back: "Wm Munzinger, 1882."

9. Francis Rotter. Full-length studio portrait of a dark-haired young man in suit and tie, standing with his hand resting on the fringed armrest of a posing chair, in front of a painted background. Only the top button of his coat is fastened, and he sports a pocket handkerchief. On pink card. Written on back: "Frank Rotter, June 2, 1882."

10. Raymond B. Smith. Full-length studio portrait of boy in suit and tie, likely on the occasion of his First Communion. He wears a boutonniere, and holds a white candle decorated with flowers and ribbons. His other hand holds a book resting on a rustic stand fashioned from branches and vines. The feet of the posing stand are visible. In front of a painted background. On green card. Written on back: "Raymond B. Smith, June 1882."

11. Albert Witt and Philip Lieb. Full-length studio portrait of two young men in suit and tie, with pocket squares and watch chains. The man on the right is seated with his legs crossed on a fringed chair, wears a derby with a ribbon, and holds a walking stick or cane which resembles a sword. The man on the left stands beside the chair with one hand resting on the seated man's shoulder, and the other hand holding his hat. In front of a painted background. On green card. Written on back: "Albert Witt and Philip Lieb, Nov. 1882."

12. Joseph Wolf. Full-length studio portrait of a young man in suit and tie, standing with his hand resting on the fringed armrest of a posing chair, in front of a painted background. Only the top button of his coat is fastened, and he wears a watch chain. On blue card. Written on back: "Joseph Wolf, Stillwater, June 1882."

13. Fred W. Faber, Francis Rotter, and Joseph Wolf. Full-length studio portrait of three young men in suit and tie, in front of a painted background. Francis Rotter is seated in the middle. The other two stand, with each resting a hand on Rotter's shoulder. Left to right: Fred Faber; Francis Rotter; Joseph Wolf. Identified on back. June 1882.
