1. Nicolas Federspiel. Portrait of young man in jacket, broad bow tie, shirt with turn-down collar. Chemically damaged. Mounted on card 1 7/8 x 2 1/2 inches. Written on back: "Nic. Federspiel, Got to Insane Asylum at Hastings," and, in another hand, "77-80."
2. August Ober. Head-and-shoulders studio portrait of a stout young man with a walrus mustache. He wears a jacket, broad bow tie, shirt with stand-up collar. Pinholes in top and lower left. Some damage on back of card; may have been attached to another paper. Photographer: James A. Brush, Minneapolis, Minn. Written on back: "Aug. Ober, Minneapolis, Minn," and, in another hand, "78-80'." Also identified as "Augustus Ober." Carte de visite.
3. Pauly. Head-and-shoulders portrait of young man in patterned suit and broad bow tie. Photographer: James A. Brush, Minneapolis, Minn. Could be Peter A. Pauly, attended 1877-1880, or his brother Philip Pauly, 1888-1890. Carte de visite.
4. Bergin? and Ryan. Studio portrait of two young men in suit and tie. Their suit jackets are open. They wear bow ties. Photographer: J. Hill, St. Cloud, Minn. Written on front: "Bergen? & Ryan." Written on back: "Bergin & Ryan, Early students." Many students with family name Ryan attended St. John's. If "Bergin" is correct, the boy on the left is John F. Bergin, who attended St. John's in the 1879-1880 academic year. Carte de visite.
