Student Photographs (cartes de visite), 1871
1. Martin Guenser. Vignetted head-and-shoulders portrait of young man in suit with stand-up collar and band tie, possibly bow tie. Photographer: J. Hill, St. Cloud, Minn. Written on back: "Martin Guenser, old student, +1901," and, in another hand, "69-72."
2. Martin Guenser. Half-length studio portrait of young man in suit and striped tie, seated on a fringed armchair. Photographer: J. Hill, St. Cloud, Minn. 2 copies. Written on back of first copy: "Martin Guenser, student." Written in pen on front of second copy: "Martin Guenser, Victoria, Minn.," and on back, "Martin Guenser, Victoria, Minn., old student of our College."
3. Nicholas Hauer. Vignetted head-and-shoulders portrait of dark-haired young man in suit with stand-up collar and tie. Photographer: J. Hill, St. Cloud, Minn. Written on back: "N. Hauer, early student," and, in another hand, "69-72."
4. Francis John Baptist Lahr, Age 13 years, March 18th, 1871. Half-length studio portrait of seated boy wearing an open plaid jacket, a plaid tie, and chain for pocket watch.
5. Joseph Mayer (Charles?), 1871-72. Head-and-shoulders studio portrait of young man with receding hairline and walrus mustache. He is wearing a vest, jacket with only the top button buttoned, and wide bow tie. Photographer: N. Hassan, Glencoe, Minn. Pinhole at top. Back appears to have been pasted to something. Likely Joseph B. Mayer, 1882. Another possibility, the second guess on back, is Charles Mayer, 1871-1872. They were brothers.
6. Martin McIntire. Head-and-shoulders vignette of young man in suit and tie. Photographer: J. Hill, St. Cloud, Minn. 2 copies. First copy has some discolored spots. On back: "M. McIntire, 2 scholar died here," and, in another hand, "Martin McIntire, 67-71." Written on back of second copy: "Martin McIntire, + at St. John's." Martin was buried in the St. John's Abbey Cemetery.
7. Joseph Stusse. Head-and-shoulders vignette of young man in suit and tie. The coat has a wide lapel. The tie is dark, broad, and boldly patterned. Photographer: J. Hill, St. Cloud, Minn. Written on back: "Stussi of Stillwater, student," and, in another hand, "STUSSI, Joseph, 69-71."
