Scope and Contents

Ye watchers and ye holy ones ; All creatures of our God and King / Richard Proulx. This work is based upon the tune "LASST UNS ERFREUEN," a tune common to both "Ye Watchers..." and "All creatures..." The first page of the trumpet and horn score.

In 1976, Proulx wrote this arrangement of "Ye Watchers and Ye Holy Ones" (LASST UNS ERFREUEN) for congregation, descant, organ, 3 trpts, 3 hrns in F, 3 trmbns, tuba, timp., and percussion. According to the score, the song begins with a 16 measure organ intro (though the actual notes are not included in the score), stanzas 1 and 2 are sung accompanied by organ and brass (identical for both verses), stanza 3 is accompanied by brass only (no organ, and new notes for brass), and in stanza 4 all the instruments accompany the singing (different notes than other verses), timpani and percussion and descant added in. Proulx also included a very festive "Amen" at the conclusion of the piece. Also included in this file is what appears to be the organ that goes with the score; however, there are slight differences between it and the full score: on the organ part the introduction is not 16 measures long ( it is 14 measures - in 4/2 time!!), and for stanza three, instead of there being rests for the organ part, there is music for the organ to play "ad lib." (it looks like a compressed version of the brass parts). Because this song and "All Creatures of Our God and King" have the same tune, the music Proulx had arranged for "All Creatures..." is also included in this file. He adjusted it to cover more verses and has made slight changes in the accompaniment. For more information, see "All Creatures of Our God and King (tune: LASST UNS ERFREUEN)." Whether or not this piece has been published in this form is unclear. According to the internet, in 1995, GIA published some arrangement (by Proulx) for this tune that included brass parts; however, that version seems to only have parts for 2 trumpets and 2 trombones.
