The way of Saint James, 1999
Scope and Contents
To honor the ministry of Alan Murchie, Director of Music, 1992-1999, Saint James Episcopal Church (New York City) commissioned Proulx to write this piece. There is a note with this music that says the following: "For Oxford: Way of St. James; The Village Choir." It is possible that Proulx considered having the piece published by Oxford Press. According to the internet, however, The Way of Saint James was published by GIA Publications, Inc. (G-8094). Included in this file are the following: two engraved final scores (engraved by Joseph Adam); 3 manuscript scores; original musical sketches; papers with versions of the text of the song on them; various texts related to St. James; various pieces of music related to St. James; correspondence/letters regarding the piece [1 from Proulx to David Andrich (regarding payment, text, and plan of the piece); 1 from Proulx to James Savage (who apparently provided source material for Proulx and was also going to perform the piece); 1 from Rev. Brenda G. Husson (rector of St. James' Church, New York City, NY), thanking Proulx for this piece].
