Scope and Contents

How wondrous and how great Text based on a poem by Henry Ustick Onderdonk (1759-1858); paraphrase by Richard Proulx. Dutch Folk melody: "Jeer Juzus Heeft een Hofken" from Geestlijki Harmonie, publ. 1609. Arr. Richard Proulx T

Included in this file are two arrangements of this song. The longer, more complex arrangement includes a score and flute part. This piece arranged by Proulx for SATB choir appears to have a mistake in the text of verse 4 that needs to be fixed if this is ever to be published. It looks like Proulx inserted the notes from verse 1 for two measures (mm. 88 and 89) and forgot to replace the words for verse 1 with the words for verse 4. It is unclear if this has ever been published. The other arrangement in this file is more basic, having the same harmonization for every verse & refrain. There is a manuscript version of this as well as an engraved/published form (Hope Publishing Co.: 100 Hymns of Hope). There also is a recording of this version on a CD entitled, "Richard Proulx: Music for Liturgy, Community Mass and other favorites." Interestingly, this harmonization was used in the more complex arrangement for verses 1 and 4. It is unclear if the more complex arrangement has ever been published.
