untitled [tune: BETHLEHEM; text: by "DNS" based on prologue to St. John's Gospel)]
Scope and Contents
There is no title indicated on this piece; however, the song is based on the tune, “BETHLEHEM,” a southern USA folk melody. This is an SATB setting of the tune, with four verses. According to Proulx’s notes on the bottom of the first page, the text is by “DNS” and is based on the prologue to St. John’s Gospel. The initial harmonization for verse one is also by “DNS.” Verse one appears to be copied out of a book, though Proulx has made changes to the harmonization. Verses 2, 3, and 4 are all on manuscript paper.
