Sanctus no. III : in d minor, BWV 239, 1998
Scope and Contents
Sanctus no. III : in d minor, BWV 239 / J.S. Bach ; Richard Proulx. This work was edited by Proulx through the addition of a continuo part. Proulx also takes authorship for the alternate text provided in this edition.
The following paragraph is on the last page of this piece: This is one of the more obscure (and unperformed) smaller pieces of liturgical music by the great Sebastian Bach. There exist five independent settings of the Sanctus which were used with his various Missa Brevis settings. Most of these are presumed to be arrangements by Bach of settings by other composers, perhaps even Vivaldi, in the case of the present work. It was regularly performed at Saint Thomas Church during the years 1735-1746 and is found in the complete works as BWV 239. It is unclear if this edition is published.
