Transfiguration
Scope and Contents
This piece of music [written for SATB choir and organ accompaniment] was composed for Dr. Leo C. Nestor and in memory of Rev. John H. Vruwink. The texts are taken from Mechtild of Magdeburg (1207-1294), Mark 9:10, and Teilhard de Chardin (1881-1955). Included in this file are ten forms of Proulx's composer's manuscript (two of which are bound, with clear plastic covers); a stray page of the composition; a final draft of the piece in engraved form (revision dated 2009); lists of corrections to be made on the piece; a letter from Neo Lester regarding the citation of Teilhard de Chardin; information about Mechtilde of Magdeburg; a sheet with the text of the piece; and photocopies of a portion of a book that includes prayers of adoration by various holy people. One of the bound versions of the "composer's manuscript" was corrected in red pen by Proulx (as was one of the proof copies of the same) and comments for performance practice (apparently in reaction to hearing a rehearsal) were made by Proulx to be passed on to the conductor (Leo Nestor) for the premier performance. The premiere performance took place July 11, 1991 at St. Paul's Cathedral Pittsburgh and was conducted by Dr. Leo C. Nestor. According to information on the last page of the engraved version of the music, the 1991 version was revised in 2009. A version of this piece was published by GIA (G-8062); however, it is unclear at this time which version (the composer's manuscript version or the final revision of 2009) that was.
