Biographical / Historical
Oosterhuis based this whimsical song on Isaiah 64:5. Huijbers drew attention to 1 Corinthians 2:9, where Paul quotes this Isaiah text while addressing the various factions, divisions and scandals which were compromising the newly-established koinonia, thinly rising above the hedonism of the Hellenistic world in whish it had been planted. Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither has it entered into any human heart those things which God has prepared for those who love him.
