Stories teachers tell, 2004
Scope and Contents
Stories teachers tell is a collection of anecdotes divided into four major groups: beginning teachers, successes, failures, and humorous incidents. At the end are two more stories that didn't fit this scheme, both by sisters of St. Benedict's Monastery in St. Joseph: S. Kristin Malloy tells about the punishment of three sisters in the 1950s over "Catcher in the Rye;" S. André Marthaler describes her seventh-grade teacher's infectious love of reading. The book is edited by Gretchen Kresl Hassler, CSB '57, spouse of Jon Hassler. Jon Hassler, SJU '55 and English professor, wrote introductions to the book and to each section. Drawings are by Jerry Fearing.
