Closest to the heart - the life of Emerson Hynes: a biographical study of human goodness with a focus on the college years, 2014
Scope and Contents
Closest to the heart - the life of Emerson Hynes, Jeanne Cofell's doctoral dissertation, considers how Emerson Hynes' experiences as a college student at St. John's University shaped his moral convictions in later life. Three aspects of college life receive particular attention: encounter with a mentor (Virgil Michel); academic engagement; and involvement in extracurricular activities. Hynes was a sociology and ethics professor at St. John's, and an aide to Senator Eugene McCarthy. Dissertation also available online at http://ir.stthomas.edu/caps_ed_lead_docdiss/46
