Cast: Voice of the Pot-High (Soprano); Princes (Sopranos); Six Ladies-in-Waiting (Sopranos or 4 sopranos and 2 high mezzos); Emperor (Baritone); Prince (Bass); Cook (Bass); Voices on tape (Tenor); 3 male voices (2 tenors, 1 baritone). Orchestra: 3 flutes (Flt. III --> Piccolo); 2 Oboes; Cor Anglais; 2 Clarinets in B-flat/A; Bass Clarinet; 2 Bassoons; Contrabassoon; 4 Horns in F; 3 Trumpets in C (also 3 C tpts. offstage); 3 Trombones (Trb. III is Bass Trb.); Tuba; Harp; Celesta (interchange with Piano for taped music); Percussion; Strings. Taped music for the radio is pre-recorded by the orchestra. Note at end: 7 May 1985, St. John's Abbey. Opera Dear audience, I am but a poor prince and live in a small kingdom by the sea.
