Placidus Wingerter - June 26, 1899, 1899
Scope and Contents
Placidus Wingerter - June 26, 1899
Greek class. Studio portrait of Placidus Wingerter and seven students. One of the young men holds a book with "Demosthenes" written on it in Greek capital letters. Two other students hold textbooks.
Top row, fourth from left: Fr. Pius Meinz as a student.
Seated, second from left: maybe Fr. Herbert Buerschinger.
Black and white photograph, brown tone. Cabinet card with beveled edges.
Front right edge of card stamped in silver: St. John's Studio, Collegeville, Minnesota.
Back is covered with handwriting in German. It appears to be a poem by Franz Grillparzer, and then a note by Fr. Placidus about his dear young friends who accompanied him through Rome and Italy. "St. John's Abbey, June 26, '99 / P. Placidus Wingerter / O.S.B."
Same photograph as Box 09, number 50. Suggested identifications, other than Fr. Placidus, from the copy.
