Scope and Contents

Undergraduate Research Program: Student Research, CSB and SJU, 1997-1998; The program as Undergraduate Research began in its current form under the direction of Dr.Marcus Webster in approximately 1999. Mission Statement: The mission of the Undergraduate Research Program at the College of St. Benedict and St. John's University is to provide our students with the opportunity to engage in intensive scholarship, research, or creative work within the students' chosen field of study. The goal of the program is to support student work in a manner which allows for the work to be presented in some form to a larger external audience (e.g., publication, exhibition, scholarly presentation, or public performance). The Director of Undergraduate Research pursues the mission by providing resources and support to both the students and their faculty mentors that will facilitate the students' scholarly and creative efforts. Mary Tamm, Office Coordinator Communication Department Honors Program Undergraduate Research Program College of St. Benedict/St. John's University Funds are available for students who are engaging in research, creative projects, or other scholarly activities. There are two types of "mini-grants" available: research and creative project grants to help defray the cost of the student's project, and travel grants for students traveling to a conference or other forum in which they will be publicly presenting or exhibiting their work. Please inform your students of these funding opportunities. Contact Mary Tamm, Office Coordinator for Undergraduate Research (email: mtamm) or Dr. Steve Stelzner, Director of Undergraduate Research (email: sstelzner) regarding the application process. The 17th National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) takes place March 13-15, 2003 at the University of Utah (Salt Lake City). STUDENTS INTERESTED IN PRESENTING THEIR RESEARCH MUST SUBMIT AN ABSTRACT BY NOVEMBER 15. This is a great opportunity for undergraduate students to experience a national conference devoted to research, scholarship, and creativity from a wide variety of disciplines. LIMITED FUNDS ARE AVAILABLE TO CSB/SJU STUDENTS TRAVELING TO THE CONFERENCE. If you have students engaging in research, creative projects, or other scholarly activity, please inform them of this opportunity. _____________________________________________________ Folder 01: Undergraduate Research Program- Memos, Reports, Articles, [nd] Student Learning Highlights Report- Academic Affairs Committee Meeting, December 4, 2003 Email with mission statement of the CSB/SJU Undergraduate Research Program, September 23, 2003 Student/Faculty Collaborative Scholarship at CSB/SJU Community Article, "Stelzner Works to Increase Student Research", April 2002 CSB/SJU Media Release- Student Research to be Presented at CSB/SJU, 2002 CSB/SJU Media Release- CSB/SJU Students and Faculty Member Published in Journal, March 7, 2002 Torch Article- "Experience the Universe as University, Oct. 1, 1969 Additional Memos _____________________________________________________ Folder 02: Undergraduate Student Research, 1996-1997 Memos on Board Presentation on Student Research Student Research Abstracts, 1996-1997 (3 copies) Project Proposal by Cheryl Knox & Rita Knuesel: "Enhancing Student Research and Academic Development Opportunities Across the Disciplines", March 17, 1997 _____________________________________________________ Folder 03: Senior Honors Projects, 1998 _____________________________________________________ Folder 04: Student Research, 1997-1998 Book of Project Abstracts (3 copies) _____________________________________________________ Folder 05: Corporation for National Service Demonstration Project, 1998 _____________________________________________________ Folder 06: CSB /Cargill program for Student Research, 1999 _____________________________________________________ Folder 07: Undergraduate Research Program, 2000 Invitation to Senior Honors Thesis Presentations Faculty and Student Research (Biology and Chemistry Departments), 2000?
